Why Hasn't Obama Retracted Incorrect Gun Statement?
I'm sure you all remember everyone on Obama's camp talking about how 90% of the guns found in Mexico could be traced to America. Now that this has been proven wrong why hasn't President Obama retracted his statement that helped to spread false information to the people? Quote: Why hasn't Obama retracted claim on Mexican 'crime guns'?
August 11, 11:53 AM Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea
A correspondent sent me a link to a BBC story from a few months back, "Obama backs Mexico's war on drugs." In it, the president perpetuates a falsehood about Mexican "crime guns".
Regular Gun Rights Examiner readers know we were among the first voices challenging the now-discredited "90% of Mexican crime guns come from the US" line coming from the gun ban camp. And we continue to challenge their numbers now that they've decided their prior claim hurts their credibility.
Which brings us back to our BBC report. It includes a video. Play it. And hear Obama's words:"More than 90% of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States..." When the Brady Campaign tries to dismiss their own talking points, when even the Violence Policy Center distances itself by calling attempts to tell the truth "a red herring," the game is pretty much up.
Obama made a statement that was heard by millions that we now know was a misrepresentation. Because belief in his words strongly influences public acceptance of administration policies, it is important that those who heard and believed him know the truth.
Why is it he evidently doesn't think a retraction and correction is in order?
